Top-10-Bioplastic-Granule-Manufacturers-in-India-2026

If your business manufactures plastic packaging, films, bags or moulded products, and you want to switch to bioplastics, the first step is to choose the right raw material. That means you have to find a bioplastic granule manufacturer that can supply bioplastic granules suitable for your existing production equipment and product requirements.

India has several bioplastic granule manufacturers who produce granules from PLA, PBAT, starch, agricultural residues and other polymer materials. However, their products differ in processing requirements, mechanical properties, compostability and price.

This guide covers ten bioplastic granule manufacturers in India, including their material technologies, product ranges and manufacturing capabilities. It is intended to help packaging converters, plastic processors and industrial buyers identify suitable suppliers.

Types of Bioplastic Granules Available in India

Bioplastic granules are small polymer pellets that manufacturers melt and process into bags, films, containers and other products.

There are different types of bioplastic granules. The main difference is the material used to make them, which determines what products they can be used for.

Type of granulesWhat they areCommon applications
PLAA relatively rigid polymer usually made from renewable plant-based materials.Trays, containers, rigid packaging
PBATA flexible biodegradable polyester, often blended with PLA or starch.Bags, flexible films, packaging
PLA/PBAT compoundsReady-to-process blends combining the properties of PLA and PBAT.Garment bags, courier bags, films
Starch-based granulesGranules made by combining processed plant starch with other materials.Bags, films, disposable packaging
PHAA family of polyesters produced through biological processes.Packaging, films, moulded products
Natural-fibre compositesPolymer granules containing bamboo, wood, rice husk or other natural fibres.Hangers, accessories, moulded items

Remember that bio-based and compostable are not the same thing. Some bioplastics are made from renewable materials but do not biodegrade. Always check the specifications of the particular granule grade before purchasing.

Top 10 Bioplastic Granule Manufacturers in India (2026)

Here is a closer look at each company: what they make, who they suit, and the details you will want before you call them.

1. UKHI (EcoGran): Compostable Granules Made from Farm Waste

UKHI is a material science company based in Faridabad, Haryana. It makes compostable granules under the name EcoGran, in its own plant.

EcoGran is made using agricultural waste, mainly pine needles and crop stubble from partner farmers in Uttarakhand. This is waste farmers would otherwise burn, so the material cuts smoke as well as plastic. The Faridabad plant currently produces around 140 tonnes a month.

EcoGran comes in grades for six processes: blown film, cast film, profile extrusion, injection moulding, thermoforming and extrusion coating. It is designed to run on the machines you already have. You may need to adjust drying and temperature settings during your first trial, and UKHI’s team supports converters through that stage.

If you would rather not convert in-house, UKHI can also supply finished bags through its manufacturing partnership with DCGpac in Noida. Brands that already buy from UKHI include Reliance Retail, Amazon, Good Earth, V-Mart and Aditya Birla Group. An antimicrobial compostable bag UKHI developed with IIT Guwahati is now used on trains in the easternmost zone of Indian Railways.

EcoGran is industrially compostable and certified to IS/ISO 17088, the Indian standard for compostable plastics. UKHI is also developing EDHA, a fermentation-based material designed to break down in soil and water as well. EDHA is in the pilot stage and not yet on sale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are bioplastic granules the same as biodegradable plastic granules?

Not always. Some granules sold as “biodegradable” are regular plastic with an additive that makes it crumble into small pieces. That is not the same as compostable. Genuine compostable granules come with a certificate such as IS/ISO 17088, so ask for it.

How many bioplastic granules do I need for a first trial?

Plan for about 100 to 250 kg on a smaller blown film line, and 300 to 500 kg on a larger one. A few kilos is not enough for the line to settle. Aim for two to four hours of steady running before you judge the material.

Do I need a CPCB certificate to make products from compostable granules in India?

Yes. Under India’s Plastic Waste Management Rules, makers of compostable plastic carry bags and products need a certificate from the Central Pollution Control Board before selling. Your granule supplier’s certificates help, but the registration is yours.

How should I store bioplastic granules?

Keep them in sealed bags in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. PLA-based granules absorb moisture from the air, so dry them before processing as your supplier advises. Use older stock first.

Will compostable products break down in a landfill?

Not reliably. Industrially compostable materials need the heat and moisture found in composting facilities. In a landfill they can last a long time, so plan for collection and composting where possible.
