If you make bags, films, or packaging, and a buyer has asked you to “go compostable,” the first real question is a simple one. Who do you buy the resin from?
It sounds easy, but it often isn’t. Some suppliers are traders reselling imported granules. Some only make finished bags. Some hold certificates that don’t match what your buyer wants. Usually you find this out the hard way.
This list is meant to save you some of that time. Below are the top compostable resin manufacturers in India that make or compound granules here, run their own production, and hold certifications you can check. For each one, we explain what they make and the details you would want before you call.
This is a list of companies worth knowing, not a ranking. The right supplier depends on what you make and who you sell to.
What Is Compostable Resin, and Which Type Do You Need?
Compostable resin is the raw material, in the form of small granules, that you feed into your machine in place of regular plastic like LDPE or PP. Once used and thrown away, the product breaks down in a composting facility into water, carbon dioxide, and organic matter, with no microplastics left behind.
There are four main types you will come across in India.
PLA/PBAT blends
Most compostable bags in India are made from this. PLA is made from plant sugars and gives the film stiffness and clarity. PBAT is a compostable polymer that adds stretch and makes the film harder to tear. Together, they behave a lot like the plastic you already use.
Starch-based blends
These mix corn or tapioca starch with compostable polymers. They usually cost less, but they pick up moisture from the air more easily, so storage and drying need more care.
PHA
A newer material made by bacteria through fermentation. It can break down in soil and water, not only in composting facilities, but is still costly and hard to find in India.
Bio-fillers and masterbatches
These are not full resins. They are add-ins you mix with your main resin to lower cost, add colour, or make the film stiffer.
For garment bags, courier bags, and carry bags, a PLA/PBAT blend is where most converters start, and it is what most of the top compostable resin manufacturers in India focus on.

Top Compostable Resin Manufacturers in India: The Full List
1. UKHI (EcoGran)

UKHI is a material science company in Faridabad, Haryana. It makes compostable granules under the name EcoGran, and they are made to run on the machines you already have. Blown film, cast film, injection moulding, thermoforming, and extrusion coating lines can all take EcoGran without you having to invest in new equipment.
What makes UKHI a little different is where its raw material comes from. Part of its feedstock is farm waste, like pine needles and crop stubble, bought from farmers in Uttarakhand. That gives farming families around Rs 15,000 of extra income per acre and means less stubble is burned in the open.
The Faridabad plant makes about 140 tonnes of EcoGran a month. Ukhi’s monthly revenue has grown from Rs 4 lakh in August 2025 to around Rs 1 crore by May 2026, so the material is already in use at scale. Brands using it include Reliance Retail, Amazon, Good Earth, V-Mart, Aditya Birla Group, and Dohful. UKHI also works with converter partners such as DCGpac to supply across India.
UKHI is also working on EDHA, a PHA-based material designed to break down in soil, fresh water, and the sea. It is in the pilot stage and not on sale yet.

3. Natur-Tec India

Natur-Tec has been in Chennai since 2013 and is part of NTIC, an American company. It makes both resin and finished products, using a patented process that helps the resin run smoothly on regular plastic machines. It is also the official distributor of NatureWorks Ingeo PLA in India and nearby countries.
For garment bag makers, Natur-Tec has a practical advantage. Its 7000 Series film resin is made for polybags and mailers, and it keeps stock in Tiruppur, close to where much of India’s garment packaging is made.

5. TGP Bioplastics

TGP is a young company from Maharashtra that has put most of its effort into one thing: bringing the price down. Its resin is made mainly from corn starch and glycerine, both bought locally, and it is priced at around Rs 235 a kilo, below most PBAT-based grades.
TGP is backed by the Technology Development Board, NITI Aayog, and UN grants. It also makes some less common grades, like stretch film resin and a compostable resin that protects metal parts from rust. Since it is still scaling up, ask about monthly volumes early.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is compostable plastic the same as biodegradable plastic?
No. “Biodegradable” only says something will break down at some point, with no limit on how long that takes or where. “Compostable” means the material has passed a test, like IS/ISO 17088 in India, showing it breaks down fully within a set time in a composting facility. When you buy, ask for compostable certificates, not just a “biodegradable” label.
Do compostable plastic manufacturers in India need CPCB registration?
Yes. Under India’s Plastic Waste Management Rules, makers and sellers of compostable plastic need a certificate from the Central Pollution Control Board before they sell. Ask your resin supplier for their CPCB certificate number and check it on the CPCB website. If you make bags from that resin, you will likely need your own certificate too.
How should I store compostable granules?
Keep them sealed in their original bags, in a cool, dry place away from sun. Most compostable resins absorb moisture, which can cause bubbles or weak spots in film. Use opened bags quickly and dry granules first if your supplier advises it. Check the data sheet for shelf life.
How do I switch my line from LDPE to compostable resin?
Start with a sample and a processing guide from your supplier, and do one trial on a single machine. Clean out the old PE first so it doesn’t mix in. You will usually run at lower temperatures than LDPE and may need to adjust speed and cooling. Good suppliers will help you with the first trial.
Can compostable packaging made in India be exported to Europe and the US?
Yes, as long as the resin carries the right certificates. Europe usually asks for EN 13432, and the US asks for ASTM D6400 or BPI certification. Some buyers also want TUV OK Compost marks. Check what your buyer needs before you choose a resin, because an Indian IS/ISO 17088 certificate alone may not be enough.
