As part of our ongoing commitment to enable young minds and accelerate sustainable innovation, UKHI recently hosted the Master’s students of the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) for an industrial learning experience at our biomaterials manufacturing unit.

The visit was designed not just as a tour, but as an intellectual launchpad — giving students the opportunity to witness and understand the real-world application of bio-based materials. Our team walked them through the complete lifecycle of our compostable granules, developed from nettle and agricultural residue, showcasing how science, sustainability, and scalability converge to create responsible alternatives to traditional plastics.
What truly stood out was the enthusiasm and depth of engagement from the students. Their curiosity sparked insightful discussions around material science, process optimisation, regulatory feasibility, and circularity in packaging — reaffirming our belief that the future of bioplastics is in capable hands.
To extend learning beyond observation, UKHI introduced a Creative Essay & LinkedIn Reflection Challenge, encouraging students to express their understanding and vision for the packaging industry. The competition concluded on 24th September, with the winning essay being recognised by esteemed IIP Director — Prof. Dr. Tanweer Alam, Mr. Sourabh Ghosh, and Prof. Rajeshwar S. Matche — who jointly presented the certificate and cash prize to the winner.
A Step Forward in Industry–Academia Collaboration
“At UKHI, we don’t just manufacture biomaterials — we cultivate mindsets. When young innovators step into our facility, we don’t want them to just observe processes, we want them to envision possibilities. Because the future of sustainability will not be built alone, it will be co-created by those who dare to question and reimagine.”
— UKHI Leadership
UKHI extends heartfelt gratitude to all participating students for sharing their essays, reflections, and creative insights. Their perspectives not only added immense value to this initiative but also reinforced our confidence in the next generation of sustainability leaders. We will continue to open our doors — not just as a manufacturing facility, but as a learning ecosystem for tomorrow’s changemakers.
